For the most part, I’ve stopped listening to any Lana Del Rey remixes that pop up. But when it comes from one of my favorite electro producers in the game, I had to check it out. And while I don’t like Lana Del Rey any more than I did before, I do admire what Myndset did with this track. He took an approach that goes perfectly with the brand of music that we’ve come to know and love from him. Rather than slowing down his style to work alongside Lana’s vocals, he made her vocals try to keep up with him. The end product is a high energy electro track with uplifting synth-lines, grinding chords, and soothing, vocally driven breaks.

This has been a big year for the west coast producer, as he’s released his first two original tracks, in addition to a series of Mixtapes and remixes that have further increased his growing fanbase. Myndset truly never disappoints, and this is the perfect remix to show how he can set himself apart from the pack.

Great-Gatsby-600x600

This soundtrack to The Great Gatsby film is shaping up to be one of the greatest collections of artists in the history of film. Musicians like Jack White, Lana Del Rey, The xx and more are all on board for this, and based on what we’ve heard, they’re all on the top of their game. The newest release, which can be heard in one of the movies’ recent trailers,  is an emotional ballad from Florence and The Machine.

In her typical fashion, Florence Welch belts out every note in such expressive fashion, and does so on top of the sinister sounding melody of the songs marching drum. It’s a powerful track told in the point of view of one of the stories biggest characters. I can’t speak for the soundtrack as a whole, but with Jay-Z on production, and a track like ‘Over The Love,’ things are certainly looking up. So stay tuned for the rest as it comes out May 7th, just three days prior to the release of the actual film.

Here’s a brand new track from one of my absolute favorite newcomers in 2012, Kill Paris. This track, like so many of his others, has that signature funky glitch with a hefty dose of dub in there. More so than any other DJ, Kill Paris has found the perfect formula for mixing heavy electronic and some soulful funk. ‘I Love You Lana Del Rey (Where I Left My Heart)’ is another masterpiece from a DJ who seems to do no wrong in any of his productions.

Kill Paris is without a doubt one of the top DJ’s to watch for in 2013. So check this track out, grab the free download, and expect a lot more to come.

Just about one year ago, the very controversial voice of Lana Del Rey debuted on Youtube with her song ‘Video Games.’ I went through a lot of back and forth trying to decide if I liked her or hated her. I’m still sitting somewhere awkwardly in the middle. But I can’t knock her work ethic, as she’s already coming out with new material to follow up her Born To Die debut album. ‘Serial Killer’ is a song that’s definitely a little bit off beat (not literally). It’s melodies are dark enough to be a break up song, or a cry for help, but her voice carries such a playful tone that it can’t be anything but a love long. While I’m unsure how I feel about Lana as a whole, I do happen to enjoy this track, so give it a listen below and tell me what you think.

This is rather interesting. Mark Foster and Isom Innis of Foster the People have a new side DJ project together called Smims&Belle. I had no idea until now. But the first remix they’re jumping onto is Lana Del Rey’s ‘Blue Jeans.’ And they even got Azealia Banks to add a verse of her own. But that wasn’t the only thing this remix added. They put in some pretty heavy electronic riffs, making that the big attraction, and Del Rey’s voice secondary. It does seem a bit hectic at times, but it’s still one hell of a remix.

A bit of a slow week here due to small internet outage for a few days. But all was fixed, we did our best to catch up to the constant flow of new music, and it ended on a pretty high note with some great new tracks. This week gave us lots of remixes, bootlegs and edits of some pretty familiar songs from some pretty unexpected artists. I mean, I don’t think I ever planned on posting Usher here on the Ish. But when Kaskade’s name is attached to it, I just couldn’t resist. I can say the same for Taylor Swift. I never would have expected her name to pop on on here, but when it’s next to B.o.B, I had a hard time saying now. Check it out for yourself. Give it all a listen on the weekly playlist below.

These past few days, I unfortunately was left without any internet. I know what you’re thinking: “Who doesn’t have internet nowadays?” And my response: I thought nobody. But it appears I was wrong. Apparently even in the technologically advanced day and age in which we live, internet lines still go out. Major bummer. So I’ve been a bit behind in my music, and you all, sadly enough, were musically deprived. But by some miracle, my internet is back up and running, and I’m catching back up on some new tunes. So here’s a few songs I missed in the last few days. And expect the Ish to be back in tune starting tomorrow.

This was a big week in the world of EDM. Lot’s of DJ’s and producers are releasing brand new tracks just in time for Ultra and Miami Music Week. But that’s not to say this wasn’t a big week otherwise. Big releases hit the internet like Miike Snow’s second album, and Wiz Khalifa’s newest mixtape. I’d say overall, this was a pretty exciting week on the Ish.
